Annual Dove Tune-up
Saturday, August 16, 2025, was an almost perfect day for our annual Dove Tune-up. The weather cooperated and delivered a perfect WEGC day at the range.
There was a great group of shooters who showed up for the fun, food and prizes provided by shotgun director Sonny Harris.
The only problem was Sonny could not attend. Unfortunately he had a last minute emergency and had to pass the event off to another director.
Ethan Carol, our Night Match director, took over for Sonny and ran a fantastic event.
You may remember, Ethan, was top scorer on the WEGC team at this years Scout Shoot Out held at Mike Raahauge Shooting Enterprises which made him the perfect person to take over for Sonny. I think all those attending would agree Ethan did a fantastic job.
Ethan alternated between rounds of skeet and trap. The shooters were about equally divided between the two games. As you can see to the right, the skeet shooters got to enjoy shade for some of their shots.
As Sonny had planned, on the trap field, white clays were mixed in with the normal orange birds. Shooters who hit a white clay were awarded a certificate for a free round.
If you have never been to one of Sonny’s Tune-ups, you have missed one of WEGC’s best events.
Sonny, always the gracious host, provides lunch for all of the shooters. The grill was running with hamburgers, cheeseburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Endless chips, drinks and tasty potato salad rounded out the feast.
It made no difference if they were shooting trap or skeet, all the shooters agreed they were having a great time. If you did not attend this years shoot, don’t worry you now have a year to practice for Sonny’s next Dove Tune-up.
Make sure you get some practice in before then. You can read all about WEGC’s shotgun range and find the hours of operation on the shotgun page of this website. Just click the button below.
