Here you will find the current creek status. At the bottom of the page are Member Comments about the creek status. Anybody who has a web account is invited to make a report or give thanks by posting a comment!
We will also post updated pictures and videos here from time to time.
A water flow of 50 CFS is considered dangerous for standard clearance vehicles. Only 4×4 High Clearance Vehicles recommended when CFS goes above 50.
On average, during winter storms, the creek will flow anywhere from 130 CFS to 300 CFS or more! December storm brought in 4000 CFS!

Updated April 12, 2026
This last Sunday’s rain has caused some additional water in the creek access road. Caution low clearance vehicles.

Water is back in the creek because Fontana’s catch basin got way too full. It’s about 6 inches. Low clearance vehicles are not recommended. Everything else can make it.
On top of Fontana Water doing it’s thing, Socal Edison that has a small power plant up the road, further up stream, had to dump some water from their catch basin, so they opened it up a little bit.
Should drop again on Wednesday afternoon.

This last week, Chris Phelps our Range Development Director, was able to get a hold of some heavy machinery so that he can widen the path on the East side of the crossing. Thanks a lot Chris for the hard work you put in.
We are getting materials from catch basin at Fontana water district; friendly neighbors helping out. The material is already being delivered on our creek road much more to come! Hopefully Fontana water district will be able to shut the water off in 8 to 10 days!
At which time we can fix/repair our side of the creek to a state much better than before!
Check out Chuck’s educational video on the Fontana Water Catch Basin!
January 29th, we had 3 unwanted guests visiting the range and getting stuck in the creek with their rented U-haul!
Thanks to Chuck, who went on full retired cop mode, he was able to get their information and inspected the U-haul. They admitted to taking the spent brass out of the range.
Two of the guys were from Oregon and the third dressed in black was from Lytle Creek.
Please please, spend the time picking up your brass. Not only does it leave it clean for the next member but it also helps prevent unwanted guests.
We highly recommend investing in a rake and a dustpan to help you pick up brass easier. Help us keep our range clean and this will also not give outsiders a reason to trespass.
Chuck and the maintenance team was gracious enough to help pull them out of the creek because they were blocking everyone from coming in.
Aftermath of the record setting rain we received on December 24th. Chuck went with a friend with a very high clearance vehicle. In that storm Lytle Creek (and Wrightwood) received 12 inches of rain as the storm parked over the region. The recorded creak flow was measured at 4000 CFPS!
The above video is one of our members with an LMTV M1078 crossing the creek. Note that this vehicle weighs 17,000 lbs!

Had to check out yesterday afternoon, seen Chuck n the tractors working 💪 All the road work and range improvements are looking great !!!
Thank you WEGC
Tuesday March 10th, creek is dry!
There is and will be for awhile water crossing the road; overflow from Fontana WD catch basin! Snow melt and natural water run off from Wrightwood and Mt. Baldy! Where water crosses road it is approximately 4 to 5 inches deep that depth would be when you are just about to leave the water! Remember “ Check with Chuck”
It’s Thursday morning, March 5 out with the maintenance team getting ready to do some more work on the bars impact areas they’ve taken a hard hit over two years worth of rain so we’re building them back up to approximately 10 to 12 feet so they’re the same size as the left and right lateral limits throughout the club should be good to go for another year. The Creek is a funny situation now it’s backed the way it’s gonna be the creek‘s gonna dry up. Water is gonna be coming out and down from the road and that should go away hopefully in 3 to 4 weeks as soon as the catch basin can hold what they have. I’ll keep you informed. See you tonight at the meeting all hands on deck.
Today is Thursday the 26th day of February. The creek is dry however, Water is now coming down the road we expected that we know how the system works over there when you make that left if you hang to the left and go all the way to the creek you won’t have any problem. Some of the water and some places is maybe 6 inches but you’re not gonna get stuck anywhere. Check with Chuck on future updates.
Tuesday 24 February, creek is about 8 inches deep with a rock bar down the middle fairly easy to cross still no small automobiles! Hope to have good news tomorrow afternoon the creek being divert into a catch basin. This will dry the creek but, water will have to be released from up above; that means you see water flowing down the road! Nothing major we hope !
Today is Thursday 19 February and approximately 13:00 unfortunately the Gun Club will be closed to Limited members this weekend due to severe Creek conditions. It’s approximately 3 feet deep and very fast if you are a Full Member you can go out there but you must remember you have to cross at your own risk and suffer the consequences of your actions if there are any be safe on the good night Fontana Water District is gonna start prepping their end over there on the 23rd and fourth and on the 25th, they’re gonna divert the water into their catch basin and the creek should go dry in a few days. We will then be able to get in there and start work. Thank you from the right step. Be safe out there if you go just be safe.
18 February Wednesday 0700 video posted! Creek should not be crossed it’s approximately 2 feet deep plus, now wider and much more force!
If you are a full member cross at own risk! As range master for 8 years I recommend not crossing it’s not worth the risk!
Thursday tomorrow morning I’ll post a new video that one will be the basis for opening or closing on the evaluation of Richard Range Director! “ Check with Chuck.”
Tuesday 17 February 0700 Due to recent rain the creek is moving faster and approximately 12 to 14 inches deep. Exercise caution in crossing; recommend 4 wheel drive trucks 2 wheel large trucks. Cross at your own risk! More updates as more rain is headed our way!
Remember “ Check with Chuck.”
14 February Saturday at 1600 hours creek is about 8 inches. All trucks 2 and 4 wheel all AWD VEHICLES. No small cars ! Cross st own ruck remember staff can not help you out ! Insurance liability issues. !
Stand by for updates lots of rain headed our way !
12 February Thursday afternoon update on the Creek status. It has risen increased. The level is about 2 inches. Maybe three at the most higher I measured it going across by stopping in the middle was 12 inches when I finished working I measured on the way out and on that side was 14 inches. It’s recommended that trucks. Four-wheel-drive are OK small cars and small trucks in any type of electric vehicles like Prius just not gonna make it cautious an error on the safe side remember the staff cannot assist in any manner. There’s a liability insurance issue. Thank you from the rain stuff and stay tuned for more. Remember check with Chuck.
